How An Appointment May Help

The professional atmosphere makes my office an ideal location… and don’t worry, the glass in my office isn’t see through to ensure confidentiality.

A psychologist can help with a host of emotional and mental problems, whether they’re lifelong issues, recently discovered, or purely situational. You probably expect me to suggest that only I can help you, and that you should book your appointment today without delay – but this may not be necessary. For some situations, help from a qualified psychologist could be the only answer… but the truth is that in many cases simply talking about your thoughts and feelings with someone who will listen and understand can often set you on the path overcoming whatever obstacle it is that you are facing.

To give voice to your worries and take the opportunity to face them whilst thinking about the situation rationally can sometimes be all that’s needed. Put simply, it feels good to be listened to, and to have someone in your corner who wants to help. I really hope that you already have this, but there are many reasons that you may not be able to talk to the people you are closest to. Perhaps the person in question cares about you enough to want to know what’s weighing on your mind, but that’s exactly the reason you can’t talk to them about it… because you don’t want to burden them, you can’t count on their discretion, or maybe even they are part of what’s troubling you. In these situations, someone who’s not involved can be the best person to confide in, and to know that the discussion is confidential and without judgement can be very freeing which can help get to the root of the problem.

You certainly don’t have to be diagnosed with a mental health issue to benefit from spending time with a psychologist, and it’s perfectly normal to do so. According to the mental health charity Mind, approximately 25% of people in the UK need support with their mental health each year. This could be for everyday concerns that most of us experience such as relationship problems, work-related stress, phobias, or self-doubt. Others turn to psychologists during difficult times, such as bereavement or divorce. But choosing the right person to help you is essential. It’s not enough to simply find someone with the relevant experience, expertise and qualifications if you do not feel relaxed and comfortable with them. Their job is to help you become, stronger and more self-aware – and depending on the problem this can mean discussing things that you have never said out loud before.

In short, trust between us is essential, and this has to work both ways so I offer a free consultation which gives me a chance to be honest about whether my expertise applies to your situation… similarly, you’ll then be able to decide if you feel I’m the right choice for you.
